 Health & Fitness Terms Explained

Aerobic Fitness

It is the capacity to exercise in aerobic activities such as running or jogging for a prolonged period where the amount of activity depends on aerobic capacity (how much oxygen your body can take in) and cardio respiratory endurance (how fit your heart is)

Cardiovascular Exercise

Aerobic exercise using the heart, lungs and circulatory system. The fitter your heart and lungs are, the fitter you are.

Resistance Training

It is anaerobic training (without oxygen), including weight training, weight machine use and resistance band workouts. Resistance training will increase your strength, muscular endurance, and muscle size. Running and jogging will not do that

Nutrition

The taking in and use of food by the body. Nutrition is a 3-part process:

1st: Food or drink is consumed
2nd: The body breaks down the food or drink into nutrients
3rd: The nutrients travel through the bloodstream to different parts of the body where they are used as “fuel” and for many other purposes.
To give the body proper nutrition, a person has to eat and drink enough of the foods that contain key nutrients.

Massage

The “hands-on” ancient therapy takes many forms. The aims of therapeutic massage are to induce physical and mental relaxation, improve circulation and muscle tone, prevent soft tissue problems, aid the efficient functioning of the digestive system and encourage the elimination of toxins from the body.
